The Future Desktop Computer

The Modular Computer was an idea I had when I realized upgrading, or replacing, a part in a typical computer is pretty cumbersome, especially something like the motherboard, where the whole computer basically has to be taken apart. For this demonstration the bricks are 8″x8″, although they could really be whatever size they need to be to house the different hardware pieces. The main concern would be overly large video cards, which might be longer than 8″. The main attribute to the computer that would have to be developed is the data connection and data processing for the computer (a process usually handled by the motherboard), which would need to handle anywhere from 100-500 GB/s. That is figured by taking currently used and latest specifications for PCI Express 2.0 (which is common), PCI Express 3.0 (uncommon), QPI, HyperTransport, and SATA. SATA, of course, is peanuts compared to the other hardware buses. A new BIOS would also need be programmed in order to effectively manage unlimited multiple CPU’s, video cards, etc… Or, at least, more than 2 or 3 CPUs and videocards. The new BIOS would also need to handle power to the various peripherals, which means an adequate power supply would also be needed. Obviously, another power supply brick could be added to accommodate multiple peripherals. It should also be emphasized that there are, indeed, fans on the sides of the bricks, blowing horizontally over the peripheral. These, obviously, can’t be seen because of how the
